MAKING SAFE DECISIONS

Building and maintaining an IIF Culture requires intentional effort and commitment from everyone. Making Safe Decisions is a key component of that effort. We recognize that culture, leadership, systems, and processes play a significant role in whether exposure is controlled in the workplace.

Making Safe Decisions helps us understand these vulnerabilities and teaches us specific, behavioral strategies for improving our defenses. While Making Safe Decisions optimizes how exposure is noticed and addressed, it also sets the stage for systemic integration of the human performance principles. Instead of simply directing employees to stop making mistakes, our focus is on reducing exposure as we plan our work and make decisions to execute right the first time. The goal is to notice and plan around error-prone situations or tasks and put layers of protection in place to avoid injury, catastrophe or operational upset.

Our 5 Making Safe Decisions Modules teach us how to reduce the internal 7 brain centered hazards (exposures) so we are safe at work and at home, one decision at a time.
