Daily Task Analysis/job briefing

The Daily Task Analysis (DTA) is a documented process through which a field supervisor and the individual workers review their immediate tasks as well as identify the risks and controls required to safely complete those tasks. A new DTA is required for any change of task or assignment as well as at every new shift. Foreman, operators, linemen, and groundsmen are expected to communicate tasks and hazards to each other and visitors, including subcontractors. Supervisors, through open discussion and questions, ensure that everyone completely understands the assignment.

The DTA provides training to new crew members about our safe work practices, hazards, and how to react in an emergency situation. Listed within the DTA is phone numbers and addresses to the local hospitals in case of emergency. Everyone takes ownership of the worksite and for the safety of all those around the site. It is the responsibility of every worker to identify, control, and communicate hazards through use of DTA's.

At the start of each shift, crew leaders will hold a job briefing. During this time, everyone present including subcontractors and visitors, are made aware of the daily scope of work. This is also a time used to share an IIF moment or any safety concerns the crew may have. Taking these few minutes at the start of every shift ensures that everyone is given the tools they need to remain safe throughout as the work is being completed.
