Western Access Tollway and Airport Interconnect – Illinois
Transportation | Intelligent Transportation Systems | Illinois
Aldridge is contributing to the critical buildout of the I-490 Tollway, providing the essential Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and power infrastructure that will support the new western gateway to O’Hare International Airport. As part of a major regional expansion program, our teams are constructing a new full-access interchange and a critical section of the tollway between Irving Park Road and Illinois Route 390. A primary focus of our work involves the relocation and construction of specialized Approach Lighting with Sequenced Flashing (ALSF) light bar stations for active airport runways. This highly technical scope includes the removal of legacy systems and the construction of new foundations, duct banks, and bridge structures specifically designed to accommodate the new airport lighting stations. Our teams are responsible for the installation of new pole assemblies, complex control system modifications, and comprehensive testing to ensure the system is fully operational. Executing this work requires extreme precision and coordination to meet strict FAA requirements and time sensitive parameters. This project strengthens the regional transportation network and ensures seamless connectivity for one of the nation’s busiest travel hubs.
