Bridge Foundation Replacements – Illinois

Transportation | Rail & Transit | Foundation Solutios | Illinois

On Chicago’s South Side, Aldridge supported the replacement of two aging railroad bridges located at 73rd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue. These critical structures are vital to regional transit, carrying more than 70 freight and commuter trains daily. Our scope involved completing drilled shafts with permanent casing and rock sockets. The project was executed within narrow corridors situated between active rail lines, requiring our teams to navigate tight access and constant live train traffic in a dense urban setting. This high-risk operation demanded extreme precision and seamless coordination with rail authorities. These new foundations serve as the backbone for long-term bridge replacements, supporting a significant capital investment in one of the busiest rail corridors in the country.
