Aldridge was Awarded the Pepco Manhole Assessment Program

We are pleased to announce that Aldridge was recently awarded the Pepco Manhole Assessment Program, a 4-year project that includes the assessment and maintenance of over 60,000 manholes in the Washington D.C. region. Our detailed project plan highlighted our industry-leading capabilities with this specialized scope of work.

As a utility contractor with Exelon project experience dating back to the 1960’s, Aldridge is well-versed in successfully executing the client’s objectives. We will act as the prime contractor providing management strength from day one. Seasoned in managing complex scopes, Aldridge uses comprehensive planning components that drive the overall direction of the project.

Data Collection Platform

Aldridge is proud to have completed over 12,000 work hours on 2,500 manhole assessments under the Pilot Program with zero injuries. Much of this success came from the development and utilization of our data collection platform, a web-based data collection tool built to accommodate the needs of the customer. The data collection platform has full reporting functionality and was designed and built in-house by Aldridge developers.

The process of assessing the manholes involves establishing a work zone, verifying safe atmospheric and electrical conditions, entering the manhole with the proper PPE, and use of infrared cameras as well as still and 360-photography to capture the conditions of the systems within the manhole. All information is thoroughly documented via a tablet into the Aldridge developed database and then uploaded to allow for remote access by the owner or project team at any time. Information includes safety concerns, environmental concerns, structural deficiencies, and location and condition of equipment such as transformers, switches, and cable.

State-Of-The-Art Underground Training Program

Prior to beginning work, all crew personnel must be thoroughly trained to Aldridge safety and quality standards. Aldridge has designed a mobile training trailer to provide a simulated, live environment for in-field training to teach manhole entry, assessment, and how to work within an enclosed space.

The Aldridge Underground Distribution Training Trailer combines classroom training with hands-on applications in a controlled environment. This mobile facility, along with a trailer that is used for safe entry training are one-of-a-kind and allow our team of Subject Matter Experts, each with decades of underground experience, to certify and provide continuing education to all workers prior to entry into a Pepco manhole.

Local Workforce Development Initiative

As Aldridge continues planning for this project, we are in need of skilled labor to help complete this work. As part of our efforts to further connect with the community we work in, we have partnered with the DC Infrastructure Academy. Their goal is to facilitate high skill and high wage employment through a series of workforce development and industry preparatory training sessions, academic refresh seminars, and workforce preparation. Aldridge is excited to participate in this program along with Pepco and other area businesses. After completing the curriculum, graduates of the program receive job offers from Pepco or one of the contractors involved, such as Aldridge.
