North Star Rail Project

This half mile extension to the Hiawatha Light Rail System connected Downtown Minneapolis to the new Target Ballpark and the Northstar Commuter Target Field Station. The traction electrical components included installation of additional DC circuit breakers and multiple modifications to an existing substation, extension of the overhead catenary system, and installation of a new traction power duct bank system. Additionally, the project included various railroad signal components, including the installation of a new signal house and interlocking.

Communications work included installation of a new communications room within the Ballpark, complete with new public address systems, cameras, ticket vending/validation, remote door controls, security systems, and reader boards at the two new passenger stations and the Target Ballpark entryway. The integration of all of these systems was completed via new fiber optic cable into the existing Rail Control Center and the Transportation Control Center.
